It’s a first in Ireland! The Le Crunch Sound Bites competition was launched for the very first time in Ireland last January. Secondary schools across the country were asked to take part in the competition, in association with the national radio station Today FM, Nikon, and Air France.
Teams of students were invited to create a 30-second radio advert, promoting Le Crunch apples and healthy eating. The main communication tool made available to teachers and students was our website www.ouitolecrunch.com, where they could find all relevant information to help them create their ads.
February 2010:
- 83 participating schools, that is to say 11% of Ireland’s secondary schools!
- 321 entries received, these figures are very promising for a launch year!
Last February, a professional judging panel selected 8 finalists. Their ads were put online on our dedicated website www.ouitolecrunch.com, for the public to vote for their favourite one. Moreover, the Internet voters were given the opportunity to enter a competition to win 2 return flight tickets, courtesy of Air France.
The ‘Le Crunch Week’ took place from 1st to 5th March 2010 on Today FM. Two finalists’ ads were broadcast each day during the Ian Dempsey Breakfast show, followed by the students interviews.
The overall winning team was announced live on air last 5th March 2010, after the professional judging panel deliberated and the Internet votes were counted.
Second year’s students Leah Kearney and Naomi Lynch from Margaret Aylward Community College in Dublin each received a top of the range Nikon S1000PJ Coolpix digital camera, the first camera in the world with a built in projector. MargaretAylwardCommunity College also received €2,000 worth of multimedia vouchers, which can be spent on equipment to benefit all students attending the school.
There were also three runners up teams in the Le Crunch Sound Bites competition, with each team member awarded a Nikon S220 Coolpix Digital Camera.
